About

I have been growing roses organically for almost 15 years in my Canadian hardiness zone 4a garden, and now I am completely in love with these most incredible plants.

Why do I love them so much? First, I deeply admire their beauty, elegance, fragrance, diversity, versatility, hardiness, toughness and incomparably long bloom period.

When you grow them in a cold climate, they do require more attention, but you also appreciate them much more because of the immense joy that they bring you. Being in a garden filled with gorgeous blooms of roses it’s like being on vacation in a tropical paradise. They completely transform the environment. Even on a rainy day, their flowers lighten up the entire garden.

When roses are in full bloom, I entirely forget how long it took me to prepare them for the winter. However, if you don’t need to protect them from pests, you can put winter protection (if required) in minutes and have the same abundance of blooms that only fully overwintered roses grown in warmer climates can provide.

Many believe that roses are very hard to grow and are intimidated by them. But the truth is that they are very forgiving plants and will regrow even when frozen to the ground or chewed to pieces by pests. You just need to learn how to care for them properly, and the reward will be tremendous when you do.

No other plant fascinated and attracted so much attention as the rose. Roses have been cultivated for centuries and have a rich history. They are also known from ancient times for their medicinal and culinary uses.

They come in a wide range of colours, sizes, and fragrances. Roses can be grown in various settings, from small patio gardens to large sprawling landscapes. You can dedicate an entire garden to them, interplant them with other plants, grow as cut flowers, or even use them to make jams and essential oils.

Garden roses can be grown temporarily as houseplants, providing that eventually, you will plant them in a garden or at least let them spend the summer outside and provide them with ample feed and water. Each winter, I bring to my house newly rooted cuttings, and they brighten my days with their sweet-smelling blooms when the entire garden is completely covered with snow. When all danger of frost has passed, I plant them in their permanent location. Once, I experimented with planting bare-root roses in pots in the fall and growing them the entire winter under lights inside the house. They grew and flowered beautifully until I finally put them outside in May.

But there is also something more to roses than the eye can meet.
This is the second and most important reason why I love them so much. They have a very uplifting effect on the soul and supported me greatly on my Spiritual Journey.

Let’s grow more roses together and celebrate life by bringing more joy and beauty to this world!

With love,
Rose Gardener
